Natural Stone Tiling

Nearly all natural stones are porus and all require sealing. And if not used correctly, will result in a bad finish which is very important when considering a tiler for your precious expensive tiles.

Also, all sanitary ware must be removed as cutting around it is not an option as it is not possible. If your natural stone is a light colour and your tiler uses a dark adhesive you will get shadows appear which again will ruin the look and give a bad finish.

 

Porcelain Tiles

Can be machine polished or egg shell finish very hard wearing ideal for use in heavy traffick areas this is the hardest wearing of all tiles so can easily withstand a few things being dropped on to them ie; pots and pans.

Terracotta Tiles

(raw natural clay): Very, very porous need to be sealed before and after laying. Grouting tiles should be mixed for a decent colour blend as all will not look the same.  Tiles should not be washed down for 2 weeks after finish.

Slate Tiles

Slate tiles have many characteristics which mean no two tiles will be the same they should be sorted into thickness and laid accordingly, very hard wearing and very rustic look superb with a grey or charcoal grout.

Granite/Marble Tiles

Very porous, and must be very wary of acidic liquids ie; coke, vinegar,wine,juice etc will all stain the surface and ruin the look. A white flex adhesive should be used with light colour tiles to avoid shadows showing through. Again a great hard wearing tile that looks very, very classy.

Limestone/Travertine Tiles

Very soft and have to be handled with care as can chip/scratch easily! can be tumbled or uneven for a distressed look.
